WGI teams named for the two opening fixtures of the Representative season
The WGI Board and Selection Panel are please to announce the teams for the opening fixtures in the 2016 Representative season.
Our District campaign opens with the re-introduction of the match against Hawkes Bay. The event has been missing from the event calendar over recent years, but we are pleased to have worked with Alan Forrest (President & Chair) and his team at Golf Hawke's Bay & Poverty Bay Women Inc to re-establish this event.
The match, to be played at Napier Golf Club on the first weekend of July, will consist of a men's & women's team playing reverse singles on Day 1 and singles on Day 2. The men's side will be captained by Jonathan Cane, and includes all six members of the 2015 interprovincial squad making the team, and two top performing Juniors (U19), providing WGI a chance to continue to build on a strong team base.
Te Rongopai Clay will captain the six women team, that includes exciting young talents Erika Cui and Darae Chung, supported by regulars Gabrielle Palado and Emma Hayward, and the experienced Kellie Orchard.

The Selection Panel are excited at the prospect of Wellington continuing to develop its strong team culture with the calibre and focus of players involved. As noted by John Spraggs (convener of Selectors) "Wellington has a proud heritage of national success, but we have lacked some consistency recently. We recognised we needed to put some new structures into our programme if we want to achieve our potential. Last year involved quite a bit of change, but we are through that and I'm very excited by the season ahead"
