PBGC wins Otaki Cup for 2016
Congratulations to Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club (PBGC) who have won the Otaki Cup for the first time in 15 years.
PBGC finished at the top of the Premier Men's Interclub table with a total of 77.5 points (12 points ahead of Royal Wellington) at the end of pool play. Stephen Bridle (Chair of WGI) awarded Tim Borren (PBGC captain) the trophy at the end of play on Sunday, 1st May 2016, at Royal Wellington Golf Course, where the last day of pool play competition was played. PBGC were proud of their recent victory noting that they have not won the Otaki Cup competition since 2001.
Over the course of the Premier competition, 16 players had been used to field the best possible team for each round of play. This included both veteran's of the game - Frank Borren and Martin Webber, combined with some up and coming talent such as Brady Bernard, Cameron Elers and Cooper Wattam.
The team now look to take the double, competing for the Duncan Cup. Having successfully made it through the first knockout round (against Masterton), PBGC take on Shandon in the semi-final on Saturday, 21 May 2016 to earn a place in the final. The game is to be played at Waikanae Golf Course with the foursomes kicking off at 7:45am and the singles at 11:45 am.
