Wellington Post Narrow Losses to Auckland
In the annual season opening and long standing fixture, Wellington Men's and Junior Men's teams battled powerhouse Auckalnd in Taupo.
In typical mid winter conditions, Taupo GC was yet again in great condition.
After day 1 the two fixtures were all tied up at 4 all in the Men's event and 3 all in the Junior Men's event.
As the weather deterioated into terrible conditions on day 2, the Junior men came up agonisingly close going down 5.5 - 6.5 to Auckland, highlighted by Ned Butlet from Otaki GC posting two wins against the Auckland no.1 and no. 2 players.
The Men's match was equally close, the final two matches unfortunately being agreed halves as the conditions became unplayable, ensuring Auckland edged the caiptal side 9 - 7 . EJ Nicholson posted two good wins in the no.2 slot against the Auckland no.1 and no. 2 players, with Jonno Cane and Thomas Spearman-burn also being unbeaten.
Promising results and a good start for new team manager Alastair Sidford. The players look forward to the Boys National Interprovincial, and the Men's Shand Cup quad events next.
