Nichols and Chung, Harcourts 72 Hole Strokeplay Champions.
The 2018 Harcourts Wellington 72 Hole Strokeplay, the capital city and indeed the regions main event for the year was an unqualified success. A very good field on a superbly turned out course,held at a purpose built facility, that which is the new Boulcott's Farm complex - top drawer.
In the Men's competition, Sam Nichols from Palmerston North held his nerve and edged out Jordan Loof and Josef Edge by a single shot on -3, 281, Jordy's putt on 18 grabbing a decent piece of the hole to force a playoff, but staying out. A 3rd round -6, 65 from Tyler Wood also from Man/Wang sets the initial record on the new layout.
In the Women's event, Darae Chung who held a small overnight lead on Brydie Hodge and Tara Raj from Man/Wang, streaked away on the 2nd day, matching Tyler Wood with a with a -6, 66 in the morning followed by a -5, 67 in the afternoon for a -10, 278 winning total.
In the Harcourts Cup Provincial teams event, Man/Wang Senior Men edged Wellington Senior Men by a single shot over the 4 round, 12 counting scores, competition.
In the Leck Cup WGI Interclub teams of 3 competition, played over rounds 3 and 4, the Shandon team of Darae Chung, Andrew Drummond and Harry Allardyce headed off Royal Wellington by 2 shots.
