Freyberg Masters 2014 - Day 5
In calm, warm and sunny conditions, Wellington wrapped up it's campaign at the 2014 Freyberg Masters with a hard fought 2.5 / 2.5 draw with 2012 Champions Waikato. Mike Ursin continued to impress on debut with a 3/2 win while Malcolm Gullery finished the tournament in style with his third successive sub par win at number 1. Frank Borren sank clutch putts at 17 and 18 to claim the other half point. While John Warrington and Darin Hiroki fought right to the finish in close matches, they could not find the bottom of the cup when needed.
While the final placing was disappointing, the team was able to take away several positives from their campaign. The fine play at 1 and 5 from Malcolm and Darin, and impressive debuts from John and MIke. While Frank will be disappointed with his form, illness leading into the tournament and a very hilly course took its toll.
Planning is already underway for a more comprehensive preparation and better result for the 2015 Masters in Taranaki.
