Australian Junior Boys and Girls Amateur Squads named
New Zealand Golf has announced its squads to compete in the Australian Junior Amateur Championships to be held in Tasmania this April. The Junior Boys side includes Daniel Hillier (Wellington), Henry Spring (BOP), Harry Hillier (BOP) and Inia Logan (Otago). For the girls Alanna Campbell (BOP), Momoka Kobori (Canterbury), Amelia Garvey (Canterbury) and Ela Grimwood (North Harbour) have all earned their positions within the traveling New Zealand squad.
The Australian Boys’ Amateur Championship will be staged at the Ulverstone Golf Club, Tasmania from April 13 – 15 and the Girls Championship will be held on the same dates at the Devonport Golf Club, Tasmania. Both championships are open to players aged under 18 years on the first day of play.
The tournaments are contested over 72-holes stroke play (cut after 36-holes), with a handicap limit of approximately 4.4 for the boys and 15.4 for the girls. Within the Australian Girls and Boys Amateur, for the first time, the players will be competing for the Trans Tasman Cup – the boys will be competing for the Clare Higson Trophy and the girls the Junior Tasman Cup. The best three scores out of the four players each day will count towards the team total. The lowest team total will win the respective trophy.
The biennial event was last played in 2012 in Victoria, where teams went head to head in match play. In 2012 Australia defeated the New Zealand Girls and Boys side.
