2016/17 John Durry Salver kicks off Interclub Season
The John Durry Salver, now in to its 3rd successful season has got the 2017 Interclub season underway albeit that the competition spans the months from September 2016 till April 2017. Instigated by PBGC and named after Paraparumu's late John Durry, the winner of the NZ Amateur an impressive 4 times in 1963, 65, 67 and finally in 1979 at his home course. JD also won the Bledisloe Cup for low amateur at the NZ Open in 61 and 66, five National Foursomes titles including in 1959 with Bob Charles, numerous Club Open's and events around NZ and abroad and had a long tenure in NZ Rep teams. After this stellar playing career John went on to have a long time involvement within the then WGA.
The competition is played between PBGC, RWGC, BFHGC and Miramar by teams of 8 men who are eligible by having a handicap between 5 and 15 and are over the age of 50.
A great initiative using course capacity mid week and offering a further competition to support the need for competitive golf within different segments of our golfing landscape.
